Your True Identity - Pastor Mark

Your True Identity

Pastor Mark Krieg

What defines who you are?

It’s a question that feels more complicated than ever. We live in a world constantly asking us to choose, build, and refine our identity—what we believe, what we like, who we align with. From the teams we cheer for to the brands we wear, identity has become something we construct.

And because of that, we’re seeing something real:

There is an identity crisis—not just in the world, but even within the Church.

The Search for Identity

In previous generations, identity was often inherited. It was something you simply stepped into. Today, it’s something many feel they have to create and maintain.

It’s the difference between wearing a heavy winter coat and a carefully designed outfit. One may feel restrictive, but it’s steady. The other offers freedom—but it comes with constant pressure to keep it together.

That pressure creates a deeper sense of need. Not because we suddenly need identity more—but because we feel its absence more.

But here’s the truth:

Not all identity is created. Some identity is given.

What Cannot Be Changed

There are parts of who we are that we did not choose.

Our physical traits, our background, our birthplace, our family—these are all aspects of identity we inherit. They are fixed realities that shape us.

And in the same way, there is a deeper identity—one that is not constructed, but received.

Your Identity in Christ

When you are born again, you are given a new identity—one that is unchanging, secure, and rooted in truth.

Regardless of how you feel, what you’ve experienced, or what lies you’ve believed, Scripture declares who you are:

  • A child of God with direct access to Him

  • A new creation with a fresh start

  • An ambassador of Christ with purpose and authority

  • The salt of the earth and light of the world—an influencer for good

  • God’s masterpiece, intentionally designed for a specific purpose

  • A friend of Jesus, invited into relationship and understanding

  • A temple of the Holy Spirit, carrying His presence

  • A member of the body of Christ, part of something bigger

  • A citizen of heaven, belonging to an eternal kingdom

  • A branch connected to the vine, drawing life from Him

  • A royal priest with direct access to God

  • A soldier of Christ, equipped for spiritual strength

This identity is not something you earn. It is not something you build. It is something you receive—and it cannot be taken from you.

Strength in the Truth

Life is not always easy. In fact, it often stretches us, challenges us, and refines us.

But when your identity is rooted in Christ, those challenges don’t define you—they shape you.

They become part of the process of forming someone who loves deeply, reflects God’s glory, and is prepared for something far greater than this life.

For Such a Time as This

The story of Esther gives us a powerful picture of purpose connected to identity.

She didn’t fully understand her position at first—but when the moment came, she stepped into it. She recognized that her identity wasn’t random. It was intentional.

“And who knows whether you have not attained royalty for such a time as this?” (Esther 4:14)

The same is true for you.

You are not here by accident.
You are not without purpose.
You have been positioned for this moment.

Living From Who You Are

When you begin to live from your identity in Christ, everything shifts.

You stop striving to become something—and start walking in what is already true.

You stop chasing validation—and start living from security.

You stop asking “Who am I?”—and start declaring it.
