The Value of the Word

Devotional Contributor: Anna Marie Dandy

Acts‬ 6‬:13‬-14‬ NIV‬‬ - They produced false witnesses, who testified, “This fellow never stops speaking against this holy place and against the law. For we have heard him say that this Jesus of Nazareth will destroy this place and change the customs Moses handed down to us.”

In Acts 7 Stephen is standing before the Sanhedrin. He has been falsely accused of speaking against the law and is giving his defense. He skillfully uses as his defense a summary of the Old Testament history of his people explaining the stories of Joseph and Moses, and how the Israelites’ hearts would often turn from God. He uses the Bible to show them truth.

How many of us are prepared to give an answer in a similar way?

1 Peter‬ 3‬:15‬ NIV‬‬ - But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have…

The Word of God is our defense. The Word of God is our answer. The Word of God helps us to hear the rhema, moment by moment, Word of God. We need to be immersed in the Bible on a daily basis so that when someone asks us for a reason for our hope or why we are different, the Spirit of God can breathe life into His written Word and we can share it, either verbatim or in our own words to that those around us and they can receive the hope that we have in Him.

Do you have a hard time reading the Bible? Have you ever had a hard time understanding or focusing on His Word? One way God wants you to learn to know His voice is through the Bible. He wants to breathe life into its pages to help you in your personal walk. He wants you to know the Word so you can share His word.

Coming soon to CCC there will be a class to help you to dive in, discuss, ask questions, ponder, and learn to share His Word, so that you will have an answer when you are called upon to give one. Please be praying if this is something God wants you to participate in. His Word is worth every moment spent in it for yourself and for the world around you.
